the history of the bagpipes

The official home of the great highland bagpipes was the battle field, it was originally designed to direct troops around the battle field and convey orders to every one, a side effect of the pipes was that it spurred on the charge towards the enemy, in other words it boosted morale. Bagpipes were present at many famous battles, not just the ones in Scotland.  They were present at the battle of Waterloo, the battle of the Somme, the battle for loos and their was one occurrence of a piper known as the mad piper in WWII at Sword beach leading on to Pegasus bridge on the very famous D-day, Piper Bill Millin is what he is known as.  Sadly he died in 2010 but he died at 88 a hero and an inspiration. The great highland bagpipes will always be remembered for military prowess and recognisation to the Scottish cause.  It is an honour to follow in the footsteps of such great people

A bit about me

Hi I'm Liam, I was born in the heart of Scotland and moved to the shetland Islands when I was 4 years of age, when I was aged 13 I chose to take instruction on the great highland bagpipes with the Lerwick  pipe band, I have since played in front of her majesty queen Elizabeth the second and have several qualifications in piping. In this blog I will be talking about music and upload some  videos and even talking you through a Scottish twist on modern music.Hope you enjoy my posts and happy piping.
